About the Speakers

- Lectures on the clinical management of common pediatric orthopaedic complaints, sports medicine, and office/emergency splinting techniques. Faculty from the Mayo Clinic and Scott and White Hospital will provide participants with cutting edge clinical management updates and pearls of incomparable value to your clinical practice.

The elective basic shoulder and knee exam workshops on Thursday afternoon and the popular splinting workshop on Sunday morning will provide participants with a well-rounded foundation in some of the most common and challenging aspects of orthopaedic care.

About the Speakers

Craig Barnes, MD
Craig Barnes, MD, is a pediatric radiologist, at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. He works closely with the Hospital’s Center for Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, serving as the radiology point person for a variety of musculoskeletal imaging needs. Barnes received his medical degree from Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va. He went on to complete his residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in pediatric radiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C. In the last 16 years as a pediatric radiologist he has served in the Air Force, in private practice in Dallas, Texas, and most recently as Pediatric Radiology Section Head and Associate Professor of Radiology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina.

Christopher Beauchamp, MD
Dr. Christopher P. Beauchamp, M.D., is an orthopedic surgery and Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He focuses specifically on musculoskeletal oncology, adult reconstructive orthopedics, bone and soft tissue sarcomas, and infected, failed joint arthroplasty. He received his medical degree from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and completed his residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and at the University of Florida in Gainesville

Anikar Chhabara, MD
Dr. Chhabra is a national expert in the field of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine and is board certified. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in Economics. While at Harvard, he was a four-year Varsity Basketball letter winner. After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Chhabra attended the University of Virginia where he received his M.D. degree and completed his orthopedic residency. During his residency, he received his M.S. degree from the University of Virginia studying tendon injuries in athletes. As a team orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Chhabra currently cares for the Phoenix Roadrunners professional hockey team, Arizona State University, the Phoenix Prowlers women professional football team, the Copper semi-pro football league, South Mountain College, and several high schools in the valley. He is experienced in providing quality care for athletes at all levels, including weekend warriors

Dennis Crandall, MD
Dr. Crandall is an orthopedic surgeon/spine specialist at the Sonoran Spine Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Crandall received his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic residency at St. Louis University Hospitals in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed a fellowship in spinal reconstructive surgery, adult and pediatric spinal deformity and spinal trauma from the University of Maryland, Section of Spinal Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital and Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Crandall is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, the Scoliosis Research Society, North American Spinal Society and the Spinal Fixation Study Group to name a few of his affiliations.

Patricia Marriott, PA-C, MPAs, DFAAPA
Course Co-Director
Tricia is the Director of Reimbursement Policy at the AAPA as well as a clinically practicing physician assistant at Yale- New Haven Hospital in CT. Tricia has served in numerous leadership positions at the AAPA including president of the CT association of PAs, Legislative Chair of Conn AAPA, and AAPA liaison to AAOS.

Richard Schultz, MD
Course Medical Director
Rick is the President of Medical Staff and Director of Orthopedic Division, Scott and White Healthcare-Round Rock. He is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon with a special interest in hip and knee replacement. Rick graduated from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency work at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. This year is the second year that Rick has served as the medical director of the AAPA-AAOS course. He is one of the most popular faculty members at the AAPA’s annual conference with his lectures and workshops selling out in record time.

W. Michael Shrader, MD
Dr. Shrader practices Orthopedic Surgery in Phoenix and Sun City West, Arizona. He graduated from University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago in 1999. Dr Shrader is a director-at-large member of the Arizona Medical Association. Dr. Schrader practices at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital where his special expertise is in the area of scoliosis.

Darryl Thomas, MD
Dr. Thomas is Orthopaedic Surgery, Chief, Sports Medicine Service at Scott and White Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. He is also an assistant professor of surgery at the Texas A&M school of Medicine. Dr. Thomas is an undergraduate of Princeton University and completed his medical school education at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He has had numerous sports medicine fellowships throughout the country including Vail, CO and New York, NY. Dr. Thomas special interests lie in the areas of Sports Medicine, knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, meniscus repair and transplantation, shoulder reconstruction, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
