What is a student society?
A group of at least five PA students who regularly meet to discuss issues of common interest, such as healthcare, the PA profession, and other social issues facing students and PAs. These officers must be student members of AAPA.
Why start or continue a student society?
Student societies provide PA students with a chance to interact with other students who have the same interests. These interactions can serve many purposes, such as helping to meet other students in a social atmosphere; working to educate others about the PA profession; improving the community with projects the society implements; or enhancing ones own leadership skills. The student society provides a way for you to get involved with your peers, the PA profession, and the community.
Why register a student society?
Student societies which are registered can send a representative to the Assembly of Representatives (AOR), SAAAPA's legislative body; compete for the Outstanding Student Society Award with a prize of $500; and participate in the National Medical Challenge Bowl held annually. It costs nothing and can only benefit the society by having the support of a national organization behind you. Registration opens September 1.
